After experiencing problems keeping her house free of construction dust and debris during work on an extension, Nicki Parsons, a young lady inventor devised the 'Skanky Maggot'. The Maggot is a folding, reinforced tunnel that fits round a standard door frame to provide a sealed route through which building materials and debris can be moved through a home or office. The Maggot units are modular and therefore multiple sections can be joined together to provide the required length.
There are a number of uses for this product, such as in terraced housing where there is no outside route through to the back of the house. Gardeners equipped with wheelbarrows, tools and garden waste can therefore trundle through the Maggot without causing damage to the property. It can also provide a clean route through a dirty environment, for example where building work or renovations are taking place inside a property. Skanky Maggot can keep the dirt in and out!
There are new European Regulations being introduced, which relate to health and safety factors in construction areas. Skanky Maggot improves conditions in such places by isolating dust and debris. This can help to eliminate the problem of potentially harmful environments for building inhabitants.

Nicki says; "The idea came to me of a tunnel running through the house from the front door to the back ensuring that none of the mess ended up in the house. Also, if the ends of the tunnel were airtight then no dust could get in either. I realised that the tunnel could be used for other purposes within the house, for instance if a wall was being knocked down or plastered, or if the floor was being sanded.
I gave my invention the name 'Skanky Maggot' during the school run a day or so after I had the idea for the tunnel. At the time it was an expression my brother slipped into conversation quite often and seemed to me to be the perfect name for my invention"

When Nicki came up with the idea, she did some research and found out about how TBBplc helps inventors to protect their intellectual property and find routes-to-market for new, commercially viable ideas. She printed off an application pack from our website and sent in the details of her idea.
